Toro negro
Black Bull

A deep insight into the life of Fernando Pacheco, a bullfighter from the Mayan region in Southeast Mexico. A heart-warming and honest character, though alcoholic, violent and impulsive. Pedro González-Rubio and Carlos Armella follow, almost from inside, sometimes with disturbing closeness, the life of Fernando Pacheco, aka El Suicida (The Suicide), a young bullfighter who doesn?t fight in big arenas but in small local Mayan community fiestas in the Yucatan Peninsula. His private life and way of bullfighting are insane, and Toro negro achieves moments of extreme realism capable of fascinating and producing high tension. The scenes of domestic violence between El Suicida and his wife are of crude intimacy. A documentary showing human passions and conflicts with reality, rawness and humour.

Pedro González-Rubio, Carlos Armella
González-Rubio was born in Brussels in 1976 to Mexican parents. Having lived in India and in London, he spent some time in the Yucatan, which gave him the opportunity to discover the Mayan culture. Armella was born in Mexico City in 1978. He participated at Venice Festival in 2003 with the short film Poem. Both are now working on their second documentary, following Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu on the making of Babel.
