Summer in Berlin

Summer in Berlin. Two young women, friends and neighbours, try to enjoy life despite their problems. One of them, the mother of a child, tends to hit the bottle; the other is a determined young woman who looks after old people while seeking a man to share her life. The light-hearted restrained tone and special affection it shows our two leading characters can?t conceal the sadness in this portrayal of a Berlin that looks unfamiliar yet feels close.

Andreas Dresen
Gera (Germany), 1963. Studied Directing at the ?Konrad Wolf? Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, and has been working as a freelance writer and director since 1992. His filmography includes Stilles Land (1992), his first feature film, Nachtgestalten (1999), winner of the German Critics Award, Die Polizistin (2000), Halbe Treppe (2002), Golden Bear at Berlin Festival, and Willenbrock (2004). He has also worked in theatre and television and has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Arts since 1998.
